Find the videos

When a video is moved to another disk or folder, Merceq’s records may still point to its old location.

If clips can’t access their videos even though the disk is connected, you’ll see this message in a notification: “Can’t access the videos for {n} clips; they may have been moved…” You can open Find the videos only from this notification.

  1. First make sure the video disk is connected. If it was temporarily disconnected, reconnecting it may be enough.
  2. Click Find the videos in the notification.
  3. In the Choose the folder containing the files window that opens, point to the folder where the videos are now.
  4. Read the result. Then open a few clips to check that they’ve been matched with the right files again.
Result you see Meaning and what to do
“{n} clips relinked.” All clips were found.
“{x} clips relinked · {y} clips still missing” Some were found. Choose another folder for the rest.
“No matching files found in that folder.” Try another folder.
“…already exists in the catalog as a separate clip; you can remove the old record from the catalog.” The same video may have been added to the library a second time.

When relinking, Merceq doesn’t look only at the file name; it also compares the file’s contents. A matching name isn’t enough. Merceq may find the right video even if its name has changed.

This operation doesn’t copy videos again. It renews the link between Merceq’s library records and the files on disk. If clips are still missing, check your other folders and disks.

By keeping your library backup and video copies separately, you can return both to your original footage and to the work you did organizing it. In the next section, you’ll learn to organize your cameras, time differences, and library sources.
