Check disk status

The disk button in the bottom rail opens the Disks window. Its label changes depending on the situation:

Situation Button label
One disk connected The disk’s name
More than one disk connected “N disks”
No disks connected, but the library has clips from disconnected disks “N disks not connected”
No disks “No disks”

When a disk is connected but another disk in the library isn’t, a small yellow dot appears on the button.

For each disk, the window shows:

  • Free space and total: “X free · Y”.
  • Number of clips in your library: “N clips in the library”.
  • A usage bar.

Disks that have clips in the library but aren’t connected right now also appear in the list, with not connected beside them. Your Mac’s startup disk isn’t listed. You can also check the destination disk’s free space here before exporting.

Eject a disk

  1. Open the Disks window.
  2. Click Eject beside the disk (tooltip: “Safely eject the drive”).
  3. While it’s being ejected, it says “Ejecting…”. Merceq first releases any video open from that disk.
  4. When it says “{ad} was ejected. You can safely disconnect it.”, unplug the cable.

Eject is disabled while an import or export is running (“You can use this when the current task finishes.”). Finish or stop the operation first.

If Merceq can’t eject it, it explains why:

  • “Couldn’t eject the disk: {program} is using a file on the disk. Close it and try again.”
  • “This location isn’t a removable drive.”

Safely ejecting a disk doesn’t remove its videos from your library. You can access them again when the disk is reconnected.

You can also eject cards and disks from the Import window and with the ⏏ button in the Source row.
