Rail and wings

The narrow strip on the left of the screen is called the rail. There’s no large sidebar that opens and closes here. When you click an icon, a small panel called a wing opens beside it. The wing overlays your clips; it doesn’t shift them sideways. Only one wing can be open at a time. Press Esc or click outside the panel to close it.

The rail has these tools, from top to bottom:

Part What it does
▷ and “… in queue” Opens the Culling wing. Here you’ll see the clip count and progress (“… clips”, “… left”, “… selected”, ✓ “done”), the decision rate (“%… decided”), and the main button, which changes with the status: start culling, continue culling, Clear selection, or Summary. It may say in flow while Lens is open. During import, progress appears below, such as “importing · 12/40”. If the wing is closed, a thin blue line lights below the ▷ icon. With the wing open, click ▷ again or press Enter to perform the main button’s action.
Folder icon Opens the Folders wing. It has nine slots numbered 1–9. Filled slots show the folder name and clip count; empty ones say empty. Folders without a number appear under not on the shelf. At the bottom is the New folder… button. Drag a clip to a folder row to add it. While entering a folder name, the first press of Esc stops editing the name; the second closes the wing.
Filter icon Shows the number of active filters. Click to open the Quick filters wing (described below).
Six mark icons Shows Has duplicates, Scenes selected, Has a note, Tagged, Delivered, and Pending deletion marks. These don’t open wings; click one to show the related clips. Hover to see the mark’s name and clip count. A mark looks dim if there are no clips.
L Opens the all filters page. It has four sections: What, Where from, Sense, and Technical. Find a filter using the find a filter field at the top.

Clicking the Pending deletion icon opens Merceq’s Pending deletion window. Hover over the icon to see “Pending deletion · {n}”. This isn’t the macOS Trash: files in Pending deletion remain where they are on disk.

The Quick filters wing opens along the rail. It has three stages:

Stage Question it asks
Clean up Is there a problem with your files? If there are empty files or unnecessary duplicates, a “… show →” row appears below.
Weed out Which footage can you use?
Find Which footage are you looking for?

Blue labels in the wing show Sense predictions. The background of all three wings is translucent, like the all filters page; you can faintly see the clips behind them.

Details: Culling and folders, Search and filters, Pending deletion and reset.
