3 · Cull your clips and sort them into folders
Cull in Lens view
Lens is designed to help you focus on your footage and make decisions more comfortably. Watch the selected video in a large view while seeing the other clips as small images, and keep culling from the same screen.
Ways to open Lens:
- Click the Lens icon in the top bar or press M.
- Click the queued count beside Search.
- Open the Culling panel from the ▷ icon in the left rail and click start culling. While the panel is open, clicking ▷ again or pressing Enter also starts it.
Press ⌘1 to return from Lens to Overview.
What’s in the Lens screen?
- When the view opens, you’ll briefly see the Press Space for the full frame reminder. Press Space to watch the video in detail.
- You’ll see the folder the clip belongs to along with its date and time. If it’s in more than one folder, a number such as +1 appears; hover over it to see the other folders. When you add a clip to a folder, the folder name appears in green briefly.
- If the clip has a note or tag, you’ll see the related marks. Videos shot with a variable frame rate show a Variable frame rate warning.
- If you see the preview mark, Merceq is showing a lighter version because the original video can’t play smoothly. Hover over the mark to see “A light preview is playing because the original video doesn’t play smoothly.”
- If the clip has duplicates, you’ll see the ⧉ N mark. See Section 6 for details about duplicates.
- You can also see the filename and the decision you made for the clip.
- The video length and, if you’re watching at a different speed, the playback speed are shown: 1:20 · 1.5×.
- If the Link plugin is on, long recordings split into parts by GoPro show which part you’re watching: Part 2/3 of recording · full length 24:10.
- Use A to turn audio on or off. Unmute or Mute appears on screen briefly.
- Use J / K / L to rewind, pause, or fast-forward. A LUT you turn on in Preview is also applied in Lens; Lens has no LUT button or shortcut of its own. See Section 4 for details.
- Right-click the video to see Play / Pause, Speed (1×, 1.5×, 2×), and Unmute / Mute at the top of the menu.
You can also use F, R, 1–9, and 0 in Lens. When you make a decision about a clip, it leaves the culling view and the next clip appears. This helps you focus on clips that don’t have a decision yet.
Card sizes in Lens
In Lens, Small / Medium / Large determines how many columns of small cards show other clips. At a normal window size, Small may show 4 columns, Medium 3, and Large 2. A wider window may show more columns.
- Large shows at least 2 columns in Lens.
- If the window is very narrow, two card sizes may look the same. In that case, the option that wouldn’t change anything is temporarily unavailable. This isn’t an error; it becomes available again when you widen the window.
