Organize file names
You can give your files consistent names when you export. The file extension and video content don’t change; only the output name is prepared.
- Open the File naming section.
- Add the fields you want: Project Name, Given name, Date, Time, Camera, Your folder, Tag, Sequence, Original Name.
- Drag the fields to put them in order. You can also use the ⌥← / ⌥→ shortcuts.
- Remove fields you don’t need. You can also press Delete or Backspace when a field is selected.
- Check the resulting file name in the Example row.
The default layout is Your folder → Date → Sequence:
B-roll_20261010_001.mov
Main clips_20261010_002.mp4
Add the Given name field if you want to use a custom name you gave a clip in Merceq.
For more detailed naming, open Advanced settings → Edit template manually. Type into the File Name Template field or use the buttons below it to add new fields.
If you remove all fields, you’ll see the warning “Add at least one file name field.” but export won’t be blocked. Merceq uses the original file name; if there isn’t one, it names the file clip-{numara}.
The only file name problems that prevent starting are a / or : in the name, or a name that starts with ..
If two files get the same name
Each export goes into a separate project folder, so files from older projects aren’t overwritten. But two files in the same export may get the same name. In that case Merceq adds a number to the second file’s name, for example Bali 2.mov. The screen also shows how many files were renamed this way.
