9 · Back up and restore your library
Switch to another Mac
You can move your workflow in Merceq to a new computer. However, you need to move your library records and video files separately.
- On your old Mac, save your library to a .db file.
- Also copy your original video files to the new Mac or an external disk you’ll use.
- Open Merceq on your new Mac. Use Restore from file… to load the
.dbbackup. - Connect the disk that contains your videos.
- If some clips can’t be accessed, use Find the videos to show the folder where they’re located.
- Open a few clips and check that their folder memberships, notes, and scene selections are in place.
Moving only the .db file doesn’t move your videos. Moving only the video files doesn’t bring your work in Merceq to the new computer either. Prepare both together.
Settings specific to a Mac, such as theme and playback, aren’t included in the backup; you can set them up again on your new computer. You also need to activate your license on the new Mac. See License for details.
