Find footage on disconnected disks

When you eject an external disk, Merceq’s records for its videos aren’t lost. You can still see clip names, notes, and some prepared previews. But you may not be able to open the original video until you connect the disk.

Clips from a disconnected disk have a Not connected badge on their cards. Its tooltip says: “The card or disk with this clip was ejected. Your decisions and tags are still here — reconnect it to pick up where you left off.” The Disk row in Info also says “{disk} isn’t connected”.

  1. Check the source and disk status in the clip’s Info.
  2. Reconnect the relevant disk. A notification says “{disk} is back — N clips are reachable again.” No notification appears when a disk is ejected.
  3. Open the clip to check that you can access the video.
  4. If files can’t be found even though the disk is connected, Merceq shows a Find the videos button in a notification. Use this if the files have been moved to another location (see section 9).

Find the videos appears only if files can’t be found while the disk is connected. It doesn’t appear if the disk isn’t connected at all; the clip is simply offline.

You need access to the original file to play a video fully, prepare new previews, or export it. Before treating an offline clip as a damaged file, check whether its disk is connected.
