16 · Cleanup and reset

Remove a clip from the library only

Right-click any clip (it doesn’t need to be rejected) and choose Remove from Library. The same command is also in the Clip menu in the menu bar. If multiple clips are selected, they’re all removed.

  • No confirmation is requested. A notification appears at the bottom saying “N clips removed from the library” with an Undo button beside it. ⌘Z does the same thing; the clip returns with its decision, note, tags, and folders.
  • The video file isn’t touched; it stays on disk. It isn’t added to Pending deletion either.
  • The clip immediately disappears from folder counts, search, and the barcode. Its place in the shot list becomes empty.
  • The preview copy is deleted (and prepared again if needed). The cover image remains; if you undo, the clip returns with its cover.
  • If you import the same folder again, the video may be added to the library again. To return with your previous decisions and notes, if possible use ⌘Z or Undo in the notification instead of importing again.

For a clip whose file is no longer in its location, Lens and Space show the same command as a button (see Chapter 15: Troubleshooting).
