Cover or preview is missing
- Check whether preparation is running in the Machine panel.
- Make sure the source video is accessible.
- If the relevant notification has a Repair previews button, use it.
- When the job finishes, return to the clip and check the result.
If you cleaned up storage, covers or playback copies may be getting prepared again. In that case, waiting during first use is normal.
Don’t start by resetting the library to fix a missing cover. First check the connection and the offered repair option.
If previews can’t be created for some clips, History says “Couldn’t create previews for {n} clips. The clips remain in the library; the videos weren’t affected.” View the relevant records with Show these clips. Then read the reason for the error; each problem isn’t fixed the same way:
| Message | What can you do? |
|---|---|
| “…format can’t be opened on this Mac (camera raw formats such as R3D, BRAW, ARRIRAW).” | Open these clips in their own app. Clip information remains in your library. |
| “…file couldn’t be read; it looks partially copied or damaged.” | Get the file again from its source. |
| “…clip couldn’t be processed.” | Try importing it again. |
