Write to a second disk too
When you choose Copy, you can export the same project to a second disk too. One copy can be your main working copy, and the other a backup on a separate disk. The second copy’s contents are also verified.
- Open the Backup disk section. Below it, you’ll see “A second copy will be made and verified too.”
- Choose the second location with Choose a backup disk.
- Check that the main and backup destinations are on different disks.
- Start the export.
The same project folder and subfolders are created on the backup disk. If your chosen project name is already in use on either disk, Merceq chooses a shared name that’s available on both, for example Bali 2. Backup files are also copied from their sources, verified, and kept in a separate ascmhl/ record in the project’s folder on this disk.
Turning this option on or off doesn’t change your place in the window.
- If you turn on backup without choosing a destination, the operation won’t start: “Choose a backup location or turn the backup off.”
- If the main and backup destinations are on the same disk, the operation won’t start: “The backup destination is on the same drive as the main destination. The second copy must go to a different drive.”
- If the operation succeeds, you’ll see the notification “Export finished. N files were also written to the backup disk and verified.”
Success of the main copy doesn’t mean the backup copy also succeeded. If an error occurs while writing to the backup disk, verified files on the main disk are preserved. The report lists files that couldn’t be written to the backup separately: “{n} files couldn’t be written to the backup drive. The files at the main destination are in place and verified.”
