Name and add a note to a scene

Give the scene a short name describing what’s in it, so you can find it later.

  1. Click the scene’s pencil button in the Scenes list.
  2. Enter a name in the Name field, for example, Opening line, Product detail, or Exit to the street. Enter saves it; Esc restores the previous name.
  3. Add something you want to remember in the Scene note field (“What’s in this scene?”): “After this line, cut to the exterior.”

Press Enter in a scene note to add a new line. The note is saved when you leave the field.

When you name a scene, its name appears in the list instead of the time range. A scene note applies only to that range. A clip note applies to the whole video. You can give each scene you select in the same clip its own name and note.

With the Link plugin and a compatible license, when you prepare a project for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, or DaVinci Resolve, you can carry your scene selections and notes into the project. Your selected scenes are marked in the project; the exported source videos aren’t cut. We explain how exporting to each app works in Section 8.
