9 · Back up and restore your library

Restore a backup file

You can also restore a .db backup you previously saved to a file.

  1. In the Backups window, click Restore from file…. The Backups window closes.
  2. In the Choose a Merceq library backup window, find the .db file you saved earlier.
  3. In the Do you want to restore this backup? window, check the backup date and “{n} clips · {n} decisions made” information.
  4. Read the warning: “It replaces your current library. Your current state isn’t deleted; it stays in this window as ‘your previous state’.”
  5. Click Restore backup. Careful: When the window opens, focus is on the Cancel button; if you press Enter right away, you’ll cancel the restore.
  6. Check your library when you see the message “Backup restored. {n} clips are ready.”

Merceq checks the backup before restoring it. If the file is damaged, you’ll see the message “The restored backup was damaged; your previous library has been put back. Nothing was lost.” You can try another backup in that case.

A backup from another Mac may contain the old computer’s locations for your videos. If library information is restored but the videos don’t appear, you need to show Merceq their new locations.
