Move files to the macOS Trash

You can send files to the macOS Trash to free up the space used by source videos. This action doesn’t free up space by itself: files stay there until you empty the Trash.

  1. Open the Pending deletion window.
  2. To move all clips, press Move to Trash without selecting rows. To move only some, check their rows first; the button becomes Move selected to Trash.
  3. A confirmation window opens: “{n} videos will be moved to the macOS Trash.”
  4. Read the explanation: “{boyut} is freed when you empty the Trash. The files aren’t deleted: they stay in the Trash until you empty it, and you can drag them back from there in Finder.” Below it: “Empty the macOS Trash to free up space.”
  5. Press Move to Trash.
  • Clips visible in the list when the confirmation window opens are moved. Clips added to the list during this time aren’t moved.
  • Only clips whose files are on disk are moved. Clips on disconnected disks aren’t moved.
  • Each file goes to its own disk’s Trash. A file on an external disk isn’t copied to your Mac’s disk.
  • Camera cards and network disks don’t have a Trash; Merceq doesn’t move files from them.
  • A file isn’t moved if it changed after import or if another clip in the library uses the same file.
  • Moved clips leave the Pending deletion list.
