Set the languages spoken in your videos
Sense turns speech in your videos into text in the languages you choose.
- Go to Settings → Sense.
- Open the menu in the Languages spoken in your videos row.
- Select the languages used in your footage. You can use more than one: Türkçe, English, Deutsch, Français, 日本語, 한국어, Español, Português (Brasil).
- The first language you select is marked as the main language.
When you select more than one language, Sense tries to identify the language of each video. At least one language must remain selected. If you try to remove the last language, you’ll see the “Keep at least one language selected.” warning.
If you change the languages later, results for clips transcribed earlier may still reflect the old settings. In that case, you’ll see the “Clips transcribed with the old language setting: {n}.” message and the Transcribe again button. Reanalysis doesn’t start automatically:
- Press Transcribe again.
- Check the “Clips queued for transcription: {n}. Running in the background.” message.
- When the task finishes, open a clip with speech and review its text.
The languages you select are used for on-screen text too. If text was read using another language setting, you’ll see the “Clips whose on-screen text was read with the old language setting: {n}.” message and the Read text again button. This scan also doesn’t start automatically. You can keep searching the old text until the new results are ready.
If Sense determines that it could transcribe some speech better, it shows the “Sense could understand the speech in {n} clips better…” notification. You can start the task with Transcribe speech again. Speech search in the affected videos may be incomplete until it finishes.
This setting isn’t about Merceq’s interface language. You may use the app in English while people speak other languages in your videos.
Speech text you’ve corrected manually is preserved when you transcribe again. Still, check proper names and hard-to-hear sentences in particular.
