Reset to factory settings
This task returns Merceq to its first-installed state; it removes library records, settings, and prepared files. Original videos, your license, installed plugins, and the library backup made before the reset are kept. It has its own group at the bottom of the Settings → General page, separate from the other settings.
Note: “Puts Merceq back the way it was when you first installed it.”
- Open Settings → General and go to the bottom (or type “factory” in the Search field in Settings).
- Press the red Reset… button in the Reset to factory settings row.
- Read the Do you want to reset Merceq to factory settings? question that opens in the middle of the Settings window: “Your library, decisions, notes, folders, settings, and downloaded Sense files will be deleted. Your videos and license won’t be touched. A backup of your library will be made before deletion.”
- Press Reset everything. To change your mind, press Cancel (Enter also cancels).
- Merceq closes and opens again in its first-launch state.
| Deleted | Kept |
|---|---|
| Library, decisions, notes, folders, scenes, tags; all settings (theme, language, card size, subtitles…); covers, playback copies, and strips; downloaded Sense files; LUT copy; work history; cache and log records. | Your videos, license, installed plugins, and the library backup made just before the reset. |
Your license remains; you don’t need to activate it again. You’ll need to download Sense again to use it.
You can return to the backup made before the reset using the steps in Return to the state before the reset above; the reset doesn’t delete this backup. A reset won’t start while an import or export is running. Find other settings in Chapter 12: Set Merceq up for how you work.
Cleaning up library records doesn’t free up the space used by source videos. To reclaim the space used by source video files, move the files to the macOS Trash and empty it. To clean up temporary previews created by Merceq, use the cleanup options in Settings → Storage. To keep your records for a long time, you can also make your own .db backup by following the steps in Chapter 9 before resetting.
