Choose a scene’s start and end

For example, you might need only seconds 12–18 of a one-minute recording.

  1. In preview, go to the beginning of the section you’ll use.
  2. Press I to mark the start. An open start appears on the timeline as an amber line inside the audio waveform.
  3. Go to the end of the section.
  4. Press O to mark the end.
  5. Check the resulting range in the Scenes section.

On a Turkish keyboard, the fact that I types “ı” doesn’t affect this shortcut.

There’s one button beside the Scenes heading in the panel:

  • When there’s no open start, the button says + Select scene. Clicking it does the same thing as I. The text is gray; it turns amber when you hover over it.
  • When the start is open, the button says something like End scene · start 0:12.0 and stays amber: a scene is in progress. Clicking it does the same thing as O.
  • The button hint says: “I start · O end”.

If you click the timeline after marking the start, the scene ends where you click.

Things to know:

  • Pressing I again while a start is open moves the start to the current moment.
  • O does nothing when there’s no open start.
  • Esc cancels an open start.

You can mark more than one scene in the same clip. After finishing the first range, go to the start of another section and use I / O to create a new range. If there aren’t any scenes yet, the list says: “You haven’t selected a scene yet. While moving through the left strip, press I to start and O to end.”

Scenes appear on the timeline as a thin amber line from start to end inside the audio waveform, with a number. Hover over the line to see something like “Scene 2 · 0:04–0:09”; hover over the number to see something like “0:12.0 → 0:18.0 · 6.0 sec”. Click to select that scene and go to its start in the video.

Selecting a scene doesn’t cut or change your video. Merceq only saves the time ranges you want to use.
