9 · Back up and restore your library
Return to an earlier backup
Important: restoring a backup doesn’t merge two libraries. The backup you select replaces the library you’re using at that moment. Clips or changes you’ve added since the backup may not be in the older backup.
- Open the Backups window.
- Check the name, date, and clip count of the backup you want to return to.
- Click the Restore button beside it. No new window opens; Cancel and Return to this backup appear where the button was.
- Click Return to this backup to continue or Cancel to stop.
- When the library opens, check your folders and the notes on a few clips.
Before restoring, Merceq saves your current library as a new unnamed backup. It also creates a Your state before the last restore row, so you can return to the work you just had if needed.
This operation doesn’t restore video files to an earlier state, move them, or recreate them. It only restores Merceq’s library records. You can keep working when it’s done without restarting the app.
If a backup can’t be read: The relevant row shows the warning “This backup can’t be read (damaged or from a newer version).” You can’t restore that backup, but you can delete it if you like.
