Preview different framing options

Will you use your horizontal footage later in a vertical or square video? The framing guide places a 9:16 or 1:1 frame over the image. This lets you see what will remain in frame before you start editing.

  1. In preview, click the Framing button on the lower row, just to the right of the speed button (or the LUT button if you chose a LUT). The frame opens at 9:16.
  2. Click again for 1:1. Click once more to close the guide.
  3. Drag the frame left or right. Move it over the subject.
  • The area outside the frame darkens; the frame is outlined in a thin amber line. Its top-left corner says 9:16 or 1:1.
  • When the button is on, it shows the selected ratio. Its hint shows the current status and next step, for example, “Framing guide: 9:16 · click: 1:1”.
  • Dragging the frame doesn’t change playback. Clicking outside it plays or pauses the video.
  • The frame stays with the video in full screen (Z) and focus view (H).
  • Your selected ratio lasts while Merceq stays open and remains on as you move to another clip. The frame starts in the center of each new clip. The guide is off when you reopen Merceq. The setting isn’t saved to the clip.
  • The button looks dim and can’t be used for vertical and square clips; its hint says “The clip is already vertical”.
  • There’s no shortcut for the framing guide. It isn’t available in Lens view.
