Edit camera names
You can open the Camera names window from three places:
- Settings → Playback → Camera names → Edit…
- All filters (L) → Where from → the name the cameras link in the Camera row.
- Export → Advanced settings → Edit camera names…
At the top of the window, you’ll see the note “Edit the camera names used in exported file and folder names.”
- Open the Camera names window.
- Find the camera you want to rename and type the new name. You’ll also see the clip count beside each camera.
- Press Enter or click outside the text field. The new name is saved right away; you don’t need to click a Save button.
- Click Close when you’re done.
- Open the camera filter in your library to check the new name.
If you have two similar devices, you can distinguish them as Camera A and Camera B. You might prefer names that remind you how you use them, such as Handheld camera or Locked-off camera.
Editing a camera name doesn’t rename source files. It updates the camera information in the library.
You can remove cameras that no longer have clips. Their row has a Remove button (“You can remove this camera because no clips are linked to it.”). If the list has cameras without clips, a note appears at the bottom: “Empty cameras are leftovers from auto-detection; you can remove them.”
Changes to camera settings can’t be undone with ⌘Z. If you gave a camera the wrong name, return to this window and correct it.
