Add a condition to your search or exclude something
You can add several conditions to your search, remove conditions you don’t want, and manage each chip independently.
- Type your first condition and press Enter.
- Type another condition to narrow the results. Recognized words like vertical or 4K automatically become the appropriate filter.
- To exclude something from the results, start with - or press Shift + Enter to create an exclusion chip.
- You can see which conditions are active from the chips above your clips.
For example, add vertical to your beach search to see beach footage shot vertically.
Words that become filters
- Words like vertical, 4k, and city or country names become filters.
- If you choose a new filter of the same type, it replaces the previous one. For example, if you type vertical ⏎ horizontal ⏎, only Horizontal remains.
- Everyday words like night or square are recognized as filters when they form a chip on their own. If you use them in a longer phrase, they’re searched as text.
- Camera, tag, folder, duration, and date conditions become chips with their own icons.
- A condition with no matching values looks dim; hover over it to see the Not found tooltip.
Exclude something
- An excluded condition has a minus sign at its start. The chip also shows how many videos are excluded from results.
- Excluding free text hides only certain matches. Guesses based on image similarity continue to appear. The chip tooltip says: “Excludes {count} clips that clearly match this. {guess} clips matched by guess alone stay; click to remove.”
- At the end of chips, you’ll see set aside {n}. Excluding clips doesn’t reject them; it only hides them from these search results.
How do include and exclude work? Regular Enter includes the condition you typed; you don’t need to type +. Shift + Enter or a leading - excludes it. For example, type 4K and press Enter, then type vertical and press Enter again to see only videos that meet both conditions. Then you can add red bus to search within those videos.
One chip or several? If you add 4K vertical red bus all at once, the conditions are evaluated together in one search chip. Adding conditions separately makes it easier to choose which one to remove. If you add several exclusion chips, each excludes its own matches. By contrast, -red bus is one chip; it excludes certain matches for the whole phrase, not every clip containing either word. Add separate chips if you want to exclude the words individually.
An important distinction about Sense guesses: a text exclusion like -red bus can remove certain text matches in file names, notes, tags, folders, speech, or text read from images; it won’t exclude clips guessed to possibly show a red bus based on the image alone. So excluding an object recognized only visually may sometimes hide no clips. The chip shows how many clips were excluded. However, if you specifically exclude one of Sense’s blue filters (for example, Indoor), clips with that tag are hidden. Remember that blue indicates a Sense guess.
Remove a chip
