Library couldn't be opened
When library data can’t be opened, Merceq may keep the previous state for recovery and open with a new library. In this case, you’ll see this notification in Notifications → Needs attention: “Couldn’t open the library. The previous state was set aside; your videos weren’t changed. You can restore from a backup.”
- Don’t delete the existing recovery copy first. If the library looks empty, remember that this doesn’t mean the data is completely lost.
- Press Restore backup in the notification.
- In the Backups section, choose the session to return to by date. Check that the restore will replace the current library.
- After the restore finishes, check the decisions and folder memberships of a few clips.
- If source videos won’t open, remember that backups don’t contain video files; connect the relevant disks or find the videos.
The library set aside for recovery appears in the Set aside for recovery row of the Settings → Storage → Kept group.
You may also see a macOS warning while Merceq opens:
| Warning | What can you do? |
|---|---|
| Merceq is already open — “The same library can’t be opened twice.” | Switch to the open Merceq window. |
| Couldn’t open the library — “…the disk may be full or permission may be missing…” | Free up space on your Mac and reopen Merceq. If it continues, contact support. |
| “Your library was saved with a newer version of Merceq.” | Install the latest version of Merceq. Nothing was changed. |
| “Merceq couldn’t create its data folder…” | Free up space on your Mac and reopen Merceq. If it continues, contact support. |
Other situations:
- If you see “The library may also be open in another window. Don’t make changes in two windows at the same time.”, close the second window.
- If you see “The disk containing your library is full: Merceq can’t save your decisions.”, free up space on your Mac’s disk and try again.
