10 · Organize your cameras and sources

Name the cameras for your footage

Not every video clearly shows which camera it was shot with. When Merceq can’t identify the camera for a new source, the Which camera are these clips from? window opens. The same window may also open after Copy to disk, then import or a rescan. The window explains: “Give this source a camera name; Merceq remembers it for future imports.”

Each unrecognized source appears on its own row. Each row includes:

  • A sample frame.
  • The file extension and name prefix, for example “MP4 · GX”.
  • The clip count (“N clips”).
  • Image information, for example “4K · 30 fps · Horizontal”.
  1. Use the sample image and file information to identify which camera the source came from.
  2. Choose a ready-made camera name: iPhone, GoPro, DJI, Insta360, Sony, Canon. Your choice goes in the first empty row. Or type a name yourself, such as Phone, Action camera, Drone, or Camera A.
  3. Click the Save button on the relevant row or press Enter. You can save sources one at a time.
  4. The window closes automatically when you save the last row.

Merceq remembers the name you gave this source for future imports. If you’re not sure which camera it came from, choose Not now: “Not sure? Skip it; you can name the camera later.”

You can use this name later when searching or filtering your footage by camera. If you choose the Camera field during export, it’s useful in the output layout too.
