While playing, it said “This file is no longer in its location”
If you delete a clip’s file in Finder or move it elsewhere while Merceq is open, Merceq notices:
- The card and list row immediately get the Not Found badge.
- If the clip is playing in Space or Lens, playback stops and a box appears in the middle of the video: “This file is no longer in its location. It may have been deleted or moved.” There are two buttons below: Find Location and Remove from Library.
- Even if Merceq misses the file change while monitoring, it checks the file again when playback stops or you return to the window.
What to do:
- If you deleted the file by mistake, open the Trash in Finder and choose Put Back to restore it to its previous location. When Merceq sees the file again, the Not Found mark disappears; reopen the clip and confirm.
- If you moved the file to another folder, press Find Location in the box (or Find the videos in Notifications) and show the new folder.
- If the file was on an external disk and the disk was ejected, the clip shows Not connected, not Not Found; just connect the disk.
- If you deliberately deleted the file and no longer want its record in your library, use Remove from Library. This removes the record from the library; it doesn’t restore the source file. If you pressed it by mistake, use ⌘Z or Undo in the notification.
Your decisions, notes, tags, and scenes remain in place until the file returns.
